Greetings in Malay Language

When you meet Malaysians you can say 'Apa khabar?' with a slightly higher intonation at the end.

'Apa khabar?' means how do you do?

'Selamat pagi' means good morning.
Normally is used in between 6am to before 12 noon.

'Selamat tengahari' means good afternoon.
Normally is used after 12 noon to 3pm (indecisive).

'Selamat petang' means good evening.
Normally is used after 3pm (indecisive)until before dusk.

'Selamat malam' means good night.
You may wish this after dusk.

Example of standard dialogue when you meet Malaysian.

Selamat pagi/tengahari/petang/malam ---> greetings
Apa khabar? ---> how do you do?
Nama saya Zarina. ---> My name is Zarina
